Medinipur. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had lunch at a farmer’s house in West Medinipur district of West Bengal on Saturday as part of efforts to strengthen ties with farmers ahead of state assembly elections. This step of Shah is important in view of the protests of the farmers running in Delhi against the three agricultural laws. Shah is on a two-day tour of West Bengal to take stock of the BJP’s preparations in the state. Shah arrived here on Saturday and offered prayers at a local temple.

After this, Union Minister went to Sanatan Singh’s residence in Balizhuri and sat on the floor in raw house and had lunch there. Shah was accompanied by BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP national vice president Mukul Roy and state party chief Dilip Ghosh. Female members of Singh’s family served vegetarian Bengali dishes on banana leaves. Shah and other guests sat on the floor in the verandah of the two-storey pallet house and ate ‘sak bhaja’, ‘lau dal’, ‘shukto’, ‘cauliflower tarkari’, ‘posto’ and ‘tok doi’.

Earlier, Union ministers and other BJP leaders were welcomed by the female members of the house, including Singh’s wife, by blowing a conch shell. Tight security arrangements were made on this occasion and media members and other party leaders were kept outside the house. Earlier, Shah’s security personnel investigated the premises several times.

Shah had lunch at the home of a tribal BJP worker in Bankura and a member of a Matua community in North 24 Parganas during his visit to the state in November.
