An official statement said that the Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying held a meeting with the states to understand the status of avian influenza (bird flu) outbreak and to control the spread of the disease and suggest measures for its prevention. Unusual deaths of poultry, crow and migratory birds have been reported from Kerala, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
Only four states have been confirmed
“So far, the disease has been confirmed in only four states (Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh),” the statement said. Concerned birds are being killed in the affected districts of Kerala. It was emphasized in the meeting that besides increasing surveillance around water sources, live bird markets, zoos, poultry farms etc. besides ensuring proper disposal of carcasses of birds and strengthening of biosafety in poultry farms.Two central teams deployed to visit the affected states
“States have been requested to be prepared for any avian influenza related situation and ensure adequate stock of PPE kits and other accessories,” the statement said. Meanwhile, two central teams have been deployed to visit the affected states — Kerala, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for surveillance and disease screening.
