Indian Payment App Paytm removed from Google Play store
Paytm is removed from the Google Play store for violating Google policies.
Google Play has temporarily removed Indian payment app Paytm. The application has been removed due to the add-on of the newly-inserted fantasy cricket tournament that violates Google Play rules, reported the search giant. The Apple App Store also sells the Paytm App for iOS for free. Google Play has pulled the Paytm First Gaming app in addition to the Paytm application, which also has the same fantasy cricket functionality for real money betting.
Paytm posted a tweet announcing that the application is being restored very soon and informing users that their deposits are secure.
“Paytm Android app is temporarily unavailable on Google’s Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back very soon. All your money is completely safe, and you can continue to enjoy your Paytm app as normal.”
Paytm, one of India’s leading startups and a widely used for online payments service, has been temporarily removed by Google from the Google Play Store. As per a statement by TechCrunch, Paytm’s consumer facing app has been removed from the Play Store after Google took cognisance of “repeated violations” by Paytm of Google’s Play Store app policies. Paytm is now the most valued startup in India and is one of India’s top firms by number of users and transactions. Reports say that Paytm has suspended its sports betting platform in the light of Paytm First, which seems to be a violation of Google ‘S illegal gaming and online casino app guidelines.
The Paytm app’s Google Play list displays an error that states, ‘Sorry, the URL you have requested has not been found on this server.’ Android smartphone users cannot download the app from Google Play’s pre-loaded app either. However, the mobile wallet and other business features are also open to current customers who still have the app installed on their smartphones.
Although the Paytm application is down, the Play Store will still be available with other applications developed by the company including Paytm Money, Paytm Mall, etc.
Why Google Removed Paytm from Google Play Store?
Google states that the Play Store bans online casinos and all other uncontrolled gambling applications that make Indian sports betting easier or more efficient. Paytm’s umbrella application advocates fantasy football, a violation of Google Play Store’s policy often.
Earlier this Friday, Google wrote a blog post outlining its Gambling rules that do not make sports betting easy for software developers. This feature was delivered by Paytm during a fantasy cricket tournament announced recently.
“We don’t allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies,” Google said in its blog post. It confirmed that this was the reason for removing the Paytm ap
Google Issued Warnings to Apps Including Hotstar and Disney+
Google also issued warning on many other applications (including the popular Disney+ Hotstar streaming service) to view disclaimers before broadcasting online gambling advertising. Google obviously cracks in online gambling software in order to offer sports betting – something that’s illegal in India – in advance of the famous Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket season.
