Minutes after MS Dhoni confirmed that he was leaving the world of cricket, Indian batsman Suresh Raina also called for time to leave besides his profession. However, Raina stays an integral part of the team for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The top batsman followed the direction that MS Dhoni wish to continue when he also announced that he would retire from International cricket on Instagram.
Suresh Raina, one of India’s leading white ball players in the last decade and a half announced his retirement from international cricket, Raina also took to social media to announce his retirement like Dhoni.
“It was nothing but lovely playing with you, @mahi7781 . With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you in this journey. Thank you India. Jai Hind!,” Suresh Raina said.
The 33-year-old was one of the few to have scored 18 tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20 Internationals almost in 8000 international runs over centuries in all formats. During his peak, he knocked against Australia in the victorious 2011 Season in a challenging World Cup quarter-final.
For Team India, Raina was an outstanding servant when he established himself as one of the most efficient middle-order batsman and one of the finest fielder to have played for team India.
Raina last appeared in Leeds ODI for India on 17 July 2018. Throughout his career, Dhoni often used him as a part-time off-spinner, but gradually Raina has been a comfortable off-spinner for Men in Blue. While it has done its best to contribute to international crickets, national selectors seem to have progressed over the next generation.
With an average 25 in tests, 35 in ODIs and nearly 30 in the shortest format in the game, Raina retired.
