Tamil Nadu: 3 people including AIADMK leader arrested in Pollachi sexual harassment case

Coimbatore CBI (CBI) on Wednesday arrested three people, including an AIADMK official, in the case of sexual harrasment by a gang with a young woman in 2019 in Pollachi town of Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. Police said that all these accused were produced before the women’s court, which sent them all to 14 days judicial custody.

The CBI has already arrested five people in this case. Earlier this investigation was done by CB-CID but now CBI has the responsibility of investigation. A charge sheet has also been filed against the five people arrested in May, 2019. He said that after further investigation, the CBI arrested Arunanandam, the leader of the ruling AIADMK student wing, and his two friends early Wednesday.

The matter came to light in February 2019 when a 19-year-old student lodged a police complaint. The student alleged that a gang of four people tried to take off her clothes inside the car, made a video of the incident and based on that video they started blackmailing her. Later it also came to light that The gang has also blackmailed many women in Pollachi by sexually harassing them. After this whole issue came to light, people expressed anger over it, after which the Tamil Nadu government first handed over the investigation of the case to the CB-CID police and later handed over to the CBI.

In the video that appeared during that time, the victim is seen screaming and defending herself from the accused. After this Sabri Rajan, Basantkumar, Satish, Tirunavukasuru were arrested. In a conversation with India Today TV, two police officers said that Chal people have harassed dozens of women all over Tamil Nadu within 2 years. Most of these women were school-college students and teachers. He said that the accused used to implicate the victims through Facebook and harass them in the moving farmhouse, moving vehicle or hotels.
