Amarinder said that the central government is spreading misinformation about the farmers of Punjab. The Chief Minister carried out these attacks in response to a letter from the Center which said that 58 bonded laborers have been freed from this state, and called the plots of farmers in Punjab to keep them bonded laborers in the fields.

Captain Amarinder Singh said, “Very sensitive information related to the arrest of some suspects from the border area was unceremoniously sabotaged and an attempt was made to tarnish the image of the farming community.” Amarinder Singh said that this letter of the Ministry of Home Affairs was leaked to select newspapers and media houses without waiting for the reply of the Punjab government.

The Chief Minister said that his government is capable of protecting the human rights of the underprivileged and action has been taken in most of the cases. Most such people are living with their families only. If any matter comes to cognizance at any stage, then necessary legal action will be taken against the culprits immediately.

Significantly, the farmers have been agitating against the three agricultural laws for more than four months. These farmers are demanding the repeal of agricultural laws as well as a law to guarantee minimum support price on crops. Several rounds of talks have taken place between the Center and the Farmers Union, but no solution has emerged from the talks.
