New Delhi. The cold effect continues in different parts of the country. The effect of fog is seen in many states as well as the Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of cold wave. As per India Meteorological Department, fog will be affected in western UP, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Rajasthan today. Also, there is a possibility of cold wave in these areas. Also, fog has been expressed in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the northeastern states.

With this, the department has predicted light to moderate rain in different areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala Tamil Nadu, Puducherry. According to the department, there is a possibility of rain in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

North India in the wake of icy winds
On the other hand, North India remained under the icy winds on Wednesday. The plains in Amritsar, Punjab, recorded the lowest temperatures while thick fog enveloped various parts of Uttar Pradesh, where eight people died in a collision with a bus and gas tanker due to low visibility. Temperatures in many hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have gone below the freezing point. Amritsar recorded the lowest 2.0 degree Celsius minimum temperature in the plains of the country, the India Meteorological Department said in a bulletin. The maximum temperature in Amritsar was 8.2 degrees Celsius, 13 degrees below normal. Amritsar is colder than Manali, Shimla and Srinagar.

The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 5.8 degrees Celsius while visibility in Palam area fell to 100 meters in the morning due to ‘dense fog’. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, had the coldest night of the season. Due to the freezing cold in the Kashmir Valley, the temperature dropped below the freezing point by several degrees Celsius.

Eight killed in road accident due to haze in UP
The weather remained dry during the last 24 hours in Himachal Pradesh. Temperatures in Manali, Dalhousie, Keylong and Kalpa have reached below zero. The Meteorological Department said that during the last 24 hours in the state, the minimum temperature has dropped by one to two degrees Celsius.

Light rain occurred in some parts of Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, some areas of the western part of the state are in the grip of dense fog. Police said eight people were killed and 21 injured when a gas tanker of a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus collided due to low visibility on Wednesday morning.
